Details have been announced for the 2009 productions at Opera Holland Park

Highlight of the season is a series of performances of Puccini's Tosca at Richmond Theatre from 24 February to 1 March. It's the first time that the Opera Holland Park soloists, together with the City of London Sinfonia and the Opera Holland Park Chorus, have presented performances out of the summer festival context.

This Tosca is a revival of the staging directed by Stephen Barlow within the 2008 summer season. Protagonists of the Richmond performances will be two casts of talented singers. Cast A include Amanda Echalaz (Tosca), Seán Ruane (Cavaradossi) and Nicholas Garrett (Scarpia); they will be on stage on 24 and 27 February and 1 March. The second cast, performing on 24, 26 and 28 February, features Julia Melinek (Tosca), Adriano Graziani (Cavaradossi) and David Stephenson (Scarpia). Phillip Thomas will conduct these special performances.

As for the summer festival, the season includes a variegated selection of works. The Italian tradition is represented by Verdi's Un ballo in maschera, Puccini's La bohème and Donizetti's Roberto Devereux. Some of the artists performing these operas include Amanda Echalaz, Rafael Rojas, Olafur Sigurdarson (Un ballo in maschera); Aldo Di Toro, Seán Ruane, Grant Doyle, George von Bergen, Tim Mirfin, Julian Hubbard, Hye-Youn Lee (La bohème, featuring two casts); and Leonardo Capalbo, Majella Cullagh, Yvonne Howard (Roberto Devereux).

The 2009 OHP season includes further intriguing productions, such as Humperdinck's Hänsel und Gretel, directed by Stephen Barlow and performed by Catherine Hopper (Hänsel), Joana Seara (Gretel), Anne Mason, Donald Maxwell, Katherine Allen and Pippa Goss. Offenbach's Orpheus in the Underworld, in a design by Peter Rice, will be on stage from 30 June, featuring Jeni Bern, Benjamin Segal, Daniel Broad and Ian Caddy. Finally, Kat'a Kabanová by Janácek is presented in a production designed by Yannis Thavoris and directed by Olivia Fuchs. The cast features Anne Sophie Duprels, Anne Mason, Tom Randle and Jeffrey Lloyd Roberts; Stuart Stratford will conduct.
